Cycling PEI-affiliated riding clubs and teams continue to grow, with two more launched last month: the PEI Gravity Syndicate (our first Enduro-focused team and development club), and the Girls Gravel Group, which does weekly (Wednesday evening) Confederation Trail Rides, meeting at Outer Limit Sports in Charlottetown. Upcoming Cycling Events May 24-25: Kentville MTB Race Weekend Starting May 31: Spring HopOn Course for Kids in Cornwall! Cycling PEI and the Town of Cornwall are pleased to once again partner on a HopOn kids cycling course for kids aged 6-13 from May 31 to June 21 at Cornwall Town Hall. What is HopOn? HopOn is a games-based program meant to introduce kids to cycling in a fun, safe, and engaging environment with NCCP-trained coaches. Learn more at www.cyclingpei.org/hopon. The program will be taking place on the following Saturday mornings from 9am to 10:00am: May 31st June 7 June 14 June 21 HopOn is designed for kids who already know how to ride without training wheels and wish to advance their bicycle skills. Your child should be able to pedal for a minimum of 60 pedal strokes without stopping in order to be ready for HopOn. Learn more and register here. Summerside Muckraker: Sunday, June 1st Join us at Summerside’s Rotary Park for the PEI’s first MTB cross country race of the season! There will be an 10:00am start time for U15 and under, with U17 and above category starts beginning at 11:45am. Check-in for the race opens at 9:30am. June 7: Demystifying E-bikes for Seniors Join us at a free event for seniors (60+) organized by Cycling PEI in partnership with Rising Tides E-bikes on Saturday, June 7th at the Culinary Institute Parking lot. Riding sessions start at 9 and 11 am, and are followed by free refreshments. Advance registration required: Please register online HERE, or contact Cycling PEI at info@cyclingpei.org or 902-368-4985 for assistance in reserving your spot! Note that this event is open to those aged 60 or older. You must already know how to ride a conventional two-wheeled bike. All participants will be given basic e-bike lessons and have a chance to test out and get comfortable with their e-bikes in the parking lot before we all head out on a guided group ride group ride to try out the bikes! This event is supported by the Seniors Secretariat of the Government of PEI. June 7: Brookvale Enduro - Gravity Series Race #1 Mark your calendar for the first Gravity Series (Enduro) race of the 2025 season! This event will take place on the “West” trails of Brookvale Nordic (Bleu Nuit, Adams Family, VeePee & Okey Dokey). See map here. This 12km loop course features rolling hills, for a low difficulty but high fun factor to get back into the groove for another year of cycling. More race information available here. Sunday, June 22 Cycling PEI is excited to host our 2nd Annual Terry Fox Ride of Hope (Gravel) on Sunday June 22nd starting at 10am. With this being the 45th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope, it’s one more good reason to join us this year! Participants raised over $5000 for cancer research in 2024 - can we beat that result this year? We welcome riders of all levels and abilities to join us, with routes of varying lengths and difficulty levels to please everyone from the casual cyclist to those looking for a challenge. Route options will include portions of the Confederation Trail as well as heritage roads in the area around the historic Sir Andrew MacPhail House where all rides begin and end. Cycling PEI’s flagship Rigid Riders All-Ages Mountain Bike Skills Club is accepting new registrants for the 2025 season! Click here to register! Rigid Riders is a summer-long mountain bike skills club for all ages, meeting at Brookvale Nordic MTB Park every Tuesday evening from 6:30-8pm from June through August. Our Orientation and Rider Assessment Day will take place on Sunday afternoon, May 25th. Everyone is welcome to join a group that meets Thursday evening’s at 6:30 p.m. to ride a section of the  Confederation Trail, starting May 29th. We meet at different locations along the Trail every week.  Whether you are getting back to cycling after many years or are a regular rider this is a great opportunity to ride with others and enjoy the wonderful Confederation Trail.  If you don’t have a bike a new Trek hybrid bike is available for you to try.  Also, if you are feeling a bit worried about cycling an experienced rider will help you along the way.   If interested please contact Ruth DeLong - email ruthedelong@gmail.com or call 902-394-1645.   Where:  Locations vary, but the first ride will meet at 439 Colville Road/Route 9 parking lot. The Annual Pedal Poll is looking for volunteers to help count cyclists at various locations in Charlottetown June 3-7! The data collected helps build the case for more, and better, cycling infrastructure.
