Tour de Cabot

Tour de Cabot

  • Bras d’Or Lakes Campground (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

A three-day epic adventure in one of the most beautiful parts of our country. Averaging approx. 100km per day at your own pace with support vehicles.

For some history of the event, click here.

We will be providing support equipment and logistics to assist in keeping the experience high and the costs low! Fully supported ride with extra bikes and wheels for breakdowns and flats.

The dates on our calendar include Friday to travel to Cape Breton. Most of us are content to drive home after our final ride on the third day so we didn't add an extra day for travel home.  We'll be starting at the Bras d’Or Lakes campground in Baddeck.  Remember that Monday is a holiday so you can likely do the whole trip without taking time off work unless you work on weekends.

Each day averages 100k or so. Some days are tougher than others but don't let that deter you from joining. We'll be going in a counter-clockwise orientation this year.  The thought of cycling the Cabot Trail may be intimidating to some but we can guarantee that you will find the level of involvement that is right for you and simply love the tour.  Set your own personal goal or simply come to enjoy time with your friends and the incredible beauty of the trail.   The intent is to include, not deter.

The general information that you need to know is as follows: All participants are encouraged to travel to Baddeck and car pool where possible. Vehicles that aren't used as support are left in Baddeck until we complete the loop. Costs associated with traveling to and from your location to Baddeck are not included in the costs of the Tour.

The cost of the Tour does include:

  • support vehicles

  • breakfast (Sat, Sun, Mon)

  • dinner (Fri, Sat, Sun)

  • transportation of gear between campsites

  • camping fees

  • National Park fees

Lunch is NOT provided - you can bring your own, but most stop at a restaurant along the way.

Riders are discouraged from bringing loads of camping gear and cooking supplies. If you have a huge tent, consider sharing it with others. Campsites generally limit how many tents can be placed on a given location. Less is more!

Registration is $220 for riders, or $170 to add an accompanying non-rider.

Register on Zone4 at https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=33450.

If you haven't joined us in the past, or have never even been on the trail, ask someone who has.  Plan ahead, and book the Labour Day long weekend now, you won't be disappointed!

For more information about the Tour, contact Mark Bowlan: mbowlan@gmail.com or 902-394-1131.

2023 Bonshaw Enduro (Gravity Series)

The CPEI Gravity Series is excited to return to Bonshaw Hills on September 24th for the second time this year (although the June event was actually a make-up for the final 2022 Gravity Series race lost to Fiona, so that makes this THE official 2023 Bonshaw Enduro)!

There will be at least three segments and, if you were at the first Bonshaw Enduro, you know how awesome they will be!

This is the final installment of the CPEI Gravity Series for 2023, and is the last cycling race of any kind on PEI this year, so you won’t want to miss it!

Registration is $35 for CPEI members (as long as you register by 5pm on Sep 23). Non-members without UCI licenses can purchase a single-event license for $20 ($10 for members of Velo NB or Bicycle Nova Scotia).

Racing starts at 10am sharp, so make sure you are there in lots of time to check in.

In the time trial, each participant or tandem team will set off one at a time, with one minute between each participant. It is not really a race against other people, but a challenge to yourself, to see how quickly you can complete the course.

This time trial series is brought to you by Cycling PEI, ParaSport & Recreation PEI and CNIB-PEI, with generous support from the Sport Partnership and Engagement Program, which is jointly funded by the Province of PEI (Department of Health and Wellness) and the Federal Government (Canadian Heritage - Sport Canada).

Red Mud Mountain Mayhem (U17 and up race)

Red Mud Mountain Mayhem (RMMM) has been a mountain biking tradition in the Maritimes for 26 years. Over these years, RMMM has been synonymous with “a premier Mountain Bike racing experience”.

This year, we are excited to try out a brand new race course, which will bring racers through a central stadium frequently for an enhanced spectator experience!

Enjoy some of P.E.I.’s best Mountain Bike trails as you tear through the green canopy of Brookvale Nordic Mountain Bike Park. The adult/expert course is approximately 3.9km per lap.

There’s a reason this race has been around for such a long time and although a podium position is always uncertain, leaving with a bike covered in red mud and bundle of great memories is always a sure thing.

We’ll be throwing some burgers and hotdogs on the BBQ, too!

Note that races for riders in the Adult Beginner and U15 and under categories will take place at 10am. Advance registration is required via zone4 at: https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=32400.

Brackley Paracycling- & Beginner-Friendly Time Trial

We are pleased to invite you to the second 2022 Paracycling-Friendly Time Trial on the cycling path of the Gulf Shore Parkway, between Brackley Beach and Stanhope (a 10km course in total). This time, we are also opening up the time trial to a limited number of non-paracyclists who are race and time trial beginners. You are considered a beginner if you have participated in a maximum of one road cycling race or time trial previously.

We will be meeting at Brackley Beach by the picnic tables where the washrooms and showers are at 5:30pm, and the time trials will start at 6pm.

The route will be along the cycling path starting at Brackley Beach, down to the park entrance on Bayshore Rd where participants will turn around and return to the starting point. This is a nice, flat and straight course on a separated bike path.

We can also arrange for a shorter course for children or anyone else unprepared to complete the full 10km course - please let us know your needs and preferences!

Please register here: https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=29629

How the time trial will work:

This time trial will include a mix of cyclists registered in the summer Paracycling Program (primarily visually impaired cyclists riding tandem bikes with sighted pilots), and a limited number of beginner, non-paracyclists.

In the time trial, each participant or tandem team will set off one at a time, with one minute between each participant. It is not really a race against other people, but a challenge to yourself, to see how quickly you can complete the course.

This time trial series is brought to you by Cycling PEI, ParaSport & Recreation PEI and CNIB-PEI with generous support from the Sport Partnership and Engagement Program, which is jointly funded by the Province of PEI (Department of Health and Wellness) and the Federal Government (Canadian Heritage - Sport Canada).

Thanks to the funding support we've received, participation in this event is FREE!

Please also note that entry to the park is free in the evening.

Red Mud Mountain Mayhem (U17 and up race)

Red Mud Mountain Mayhem (U17 and up race)

Red Mud Mountain Mayhem (RMMM) has been a mountain biking tradition in the Maritimes for 26 years. Over these years, RMMM has been synonymous with “a premier Mountain Bike racing experience”.

Enjoy some of P.E.I.’s best Mountain Bike trails as you tear through the August green canopy of Brookvale Nordic Mountain Bike Park. This 4.2km course incorporates a mix of both ‘flowy’ single-track and sweeping double-track sections. These trails are legendary on P.E.I. and have become fast and worked in over years of faithful usage.

There’s a reason this race has been around for such a long time and although a podium position is always uncertain, leaving with a bike covered in red mud and bundle of great memories is always a sure thing.

We’ll be throwing some burgers and hotdogs on the BBQ, too!

(Note that races for riders in the Adult Beginner and U15 and under categories will take place at 10am)

Advance registration is required by Saturday, August 6th at 6pm at https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=29447.

Register by Friday, August 5th to SAVE!
