Cycling PEI is REALLY excited that we get to host the first-ever Canada Cup Mountain Bike races on PEI August 8-10th, here at Brookvale Nordic! The event schedule consists of: Friday, Aug 8 Short track (XCC) races (all ages); Saturday, Aug 9 Provincial cross-country (XCO) Challenge races (all ages/categories); Sunday, Aug 10 U17+ Elite Canada Cup cross country races.
The Brookvale Canada Cup is the final race of the Canada Cup series for 2025 and will attract hundreds of participants from across the country - our biggest organizing effort so far - and will require many more volunteers than we’ve ever had before. Here are some of the main volunteer positions we need right now:
1. Course Marshals: Course Marshals are positioned at various points along the race route and are responsible for ensuring rider safety by monitoring the course, warning of hazards, and directing riders. They also manage spectators, ensuring they stay out of the way and informing them about the race. Additionally, they may assist with basic course repairs and report any incidents to race officials. 2. Pedestrian crossing guards: Positioned at key pedestrian crossings of the race course, controlling when it is safe for pedestrians to cross to the other side. 3. Parking attendants: Help direct and manage the parking of vehicles at the venue, including deciding when vehicles should be using the overflow parking lot instead of the main parking lot. 4. Lunch services: Helps distribute lunches, water and snacks to volunteers and officials. throughout the venue and race course. 5. Course set-up and teardown: Help set things up in the days leading up to the race, or take things down on the Sunday afternoon/early evening after the races are over. If you have a couple of hours to spare and would like to be part of this fun and historic event, please sign up for a volunteer slot!
