Cycling PEI seeks a Program Director to join our team!

About Cycling PEI

Cycling Prince Edward Island (CPEI) is the provincial governing body for the sport and recreation of cycling on PEI. We deliver programs and events across the Island — from grassroots cycling and youth development, to racing, trail development, and major events like the Brookvale Canada Cup and PEI Gran Fondo. Our mission is to grow participation in cycling in all its forms and to build an inclusive, vibrant cycling community across the province.

About the Role

Cycling PEI is creating a brand new Program Director position to strengthen and expand our growing operations. The Program Director (PD) will work closely with and be mentored by the Executive Director (ED), gaining hands-on experience in all areas of sport and recreation program management — from planning and logistics to event coordination, communications, and partnerships.

This is an ideal position for someone with aspirations to work in sport management, recreation, event coordination, or community development, and who is looking for a meaningful opportunity to develop leadership skills within a small but dynamic organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver CPEI’s core programs and events, including HopOn, Rigid Riders, learn-to-ride programs, local races and recreational rides, and other seasonal or community cycling initiatives.

  • Assist in organizing major events such as the Brookvale Canada Cup, PEI Gran Fondo, and other cycling events across the Island.

  • Recruit and manage volunteers, instructors, and summer students.

  • Maintain communications through social media, website updates, and newsletters.

  • Respond to inbound communications via email, phone and social channels.

  • Support grant writing, reporting, and budget tracking for programs.

  • Engage with partners, schools, municipalities, and cycling clubs to expand CPEI’s reach.

  • Contribute to post-event evaluations and operational planning.

Mentorship and Professional Growth

The successful candidate will be mentored directly by CPEI’s Executive Director, gaining insight into:

  • Program and event management best practices

  • Non-profit operations and governance

  • Partnership development and sponsorships

  • Financial and grant management

  • Strategic planning and leadership in sport administration

This position offers opportunities for advancement within Cycling PEI as the organization grows and evolves.  We are seeking candidates with an intention to remain with the organization for a minimum of two years.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or training (completed or in progress) in Sport & Leisure Management, Recreation, Kinesiology, or a related field, or equivalent work or volunteer experience.

  • Experience or strong interest in sport, recreation, and/or event coordination.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with digital tools (Google Workspace, social media platforms, Canva, etc.).

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to transportation.

  • A passion for cycling or outdoor recreation is a plus — but not required!

Employment Details

  • Term: Year-round position

    • Part-time (15 hrs/week) September–April

    • Full-time (35 hrs/week) May–August

  • Location: Primarily remote with regular travel to events and community sites. Cycling PEI’s office in the Royalty Centre (40 Enman Crescent, Charlottetown) will be at the Program Director’s disposal.
